New Media ‘Think and Drink’ at Red Light, Red Light Saturday Jan 5th at 5:30pm

New Media Brew-ha-ha!

This Saturday 5:30 at Red Light Red Light in Winter Park (map) we’re having a casual gathering of local new media mavens. Basically it’s a happy hour or what I like to call a ‘think and drink’ for anyone who likes to play with digital media and the web.

PodCamp LogoThe goal of the meeting is to catch up with friends, both new and old, share a pint and discuss the possibility of hosting a new media / digital media conference this year in O-town.

There are a lot of us creating and digesting digital media content in Central Florida and it would be so cool to bring everyone together for a BarCamp like event that gives us the chance to shoot the digital breeze and see what new and innovative things the community is up to. Mark and Ryan have mentioned that the popular PodCamp conference focuses on the New Media Community so we can discuss whether that format best serves the community.

So if you Digg new media and want to StumbleUpon a tasty new beer come by Red Light this Saturday at 5:30 and join the discussion.

Cheers.

P.S. Ryan just set up an Upcoming Event Info and RSVP page - You don’t have to RSVP but if you want to or need more info check it out.

Geeks Ready to Gather - Bar Camp Orlando

BarCampOrlandoLogo As one of the proud sponsors of Orlando’s first Bar Camp, I was stoked to find Wes Smiths write up of the event in the Orlando Sentinel.

…later this month, 250 members of Central Florida’s nerd herd will convene en masse at a College Park restaurant for BarCamp Orlando. It will mark the first local gathering in a global wave of freewheeling jam sessions created to encourage interaction and innovation among often-isolated masters of the Internet.

Thanks for getting the word out Wes. Look forward to the new ideas, new friends and a whole new future for Orlando’s digital minions.

BarCamp Orlando

Orlando may not be an internationally recognized hub for new media…yet, and I do stress YET, but the growing awareness of our tech and new media potential has been the talk of the town lately. Several of the pillars of our local tech consciousness have been hard at work behind the scenes over the last few months laying the foundation for what will be Orlando’s seminal technology and digital media un-conference.

Orlando BarCamp

BarCamp is a conference which encourages interaction between web-centric workers and visionaries in a collaborative and intentionally unstructured format. The magic of this framework is that it fosters meaningful conversation, synergistic creativity and the connecting of the oft reclusive wizards of the web working world. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the ’show and tell’ structure of the event, sharing their best ideas, practices and joining in the collective syncretism.

While a BarCamp can take place in any city, the list of 31 cities in the US and abroad were camps have been held since its inception reads like a who’s who of the web world. It is with great excitement that Orlando is joining this pantheon of Wired cities. I hope that BarCampOrlando continues in the tradition of its forbearers brining together the scattered web working brethren of Central Florida and rallying us to work towards a day where Orlando is the new media and technology hub we all dream about.

So if you are living in Central Florida and want to attend a conference where the best and brightest net-minded creatives will be talking about the next best thing than head over to the Barcamp Orlando website and get involved. This is about us joining together to put Orlando on the new media map, so….GET INVOLVED!!
